At first the pockets were filled with flour but flour gets sticky if there is moisture in the air and often the jumpers would land with a large amount of it still in the pockets.    Claude bought some tins of baby powder and tried it and it worked well.    So he looked around for a talc merchant that would supply the talc in bulk at wholesale prices.   He found one nearby his home and visited the factory to place an order, the manager was intrigued by the use that the talc would be put to and took Claude to show him some large cylinders that were full of talc, asking if this this quality would do the job.    Claude inspected it and confirmed that it would be ideal, whereupon the manager said "You can take as much of it as you like, it is the spills and sweepings and we dump it"   It was mostly ladies' talcum powder and so had scent additives, it made the jumpers smell very nice after the jump but they never admitted where the sweet smell came from.
