Gene's first jump was made at Salt Ash, New South Wales in June 1961. His first civilian jump was made with Rockingham Skydivers, at Rockingham, Western Australia in September 1964. He became a military Parachute Jump Instructor and worked as a civilian instructor at:
*Chief Instructor He competed in local, state, national and international competitions. Was a member of the Australian 4-Way Team at the first World Championships in Relative Work at Warrendorf, West Germany in 1975. He organised 5 Australian Championships, 2 International competitions, the 3rd World Championships in Canopy Relative Work, Chiang Mai, Thailand and co-organised the 1st World Championships in Canopy Relative Work, Gatton, Queensland. He and BJ Worth organised the Indonesian International Meet and Bali Boogie in 1989. He was an APF Board Member from 1973 to 1990?. He served as Director Competitions from 1979 to 1991, Chairman of the South Queensland Instructor Panel from 19?? to 19??, APF Instructor Examiner from 19?? to 19??, Area Safety Officer in Queensland and New South Wales and Area Administrator for South Queensland. He represented Australia as Alternate Delegate to the FAI Parachuting Commission from 1982 to 1990, serving as President of the Canopy Relative Work Sub-Committee and FAI Controller for the 19th World Championships in Style and Accuracy.
